My
name is Rosemary Gullo.
I am a first generation Italian
woman living in Canada. I know how serving
healthy Italian food can bring your family together
around the table. I was raised by a very traditional
southern Italian family and grew up with a passion for
making real Italian food from scratch.
From a young age I helped my family
prepare traditional tomato sauces, vegetable
preserves, sausage, salami, prosciutto and pancetta.
I have many cherished memories of going to the farms
and picking the tomatoes, vegetables, beans and fruits
before coming home and making a feast we all enjoyed.
When I turned 12, I started collecting
traditional Italian recipes. This is
not as easy as it seems. Many “old school”
Italian families guard their cooking secrets with their
dear lives.
By the time I married my husband –
who was born and raised in Italy –
I had a full collection of cook books and was prepared
to dazzle him and eventually our children with my delicious
delights.
I raised three children, while taking
care of my home and managing my career. I have been
happily absorbed full time in our family business.
My kids were heavily involved in dance,
music, soccer and other extra curricular activities.
Although I truly loved my career, my
family always came first. Ensuring my family’s
optimum healthy well balanced lifestyle was always in
the front burner of my life.
As the pace of modern life caught up
with me and I found I often didn’t have the time
to cook traditionally, which has always been a great
passion of mine.
That’s when I started slowly altering
my recipes to make them healthier and take up less time
in the kitchen. There was a little bit of trial and
error – but soon I was able to make easy
to cook healthy Italian food for my family every night
of the week.
And, Healthy Italian Cooking
was born!
I used it to prepare healthy delicious
food for my family– and now I want to
pass my secrets on to you!
While writing Healthy Italian
Cooking I’ve made sure that all of my
recipes are authentically Italian – they just
happen to be easy to make and healthy.
When it comes down to it there are only two things that
matter in life: being healthy and spending quality
time with your family.
Italians have always understood this.
That is why they have made the daily meals a
central part of their lifestyle for generations.
Simple, healthy food has always been a part of Italian
culture.
